"Weathering the Storm" is the theme for the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association 110TH AGM and Convention.

President Garner Deobald says the event has a number of presentations and a panel relating to risk management.

He notes it's an opportunity to connect with producers and help keep them informed on a number of key issues.

"Dr. Tammy Nemeth will be speaking about the changes to the environmental, social, and government standards and what it means for producers."

Also on the agenda for the first day, Dr. Melanie Morrison will talk about the research she's been doing relating to the ranch to retail spread, and Brenna Grant will give the Beef Cattle Market Outlook.

Deobald says one of the hot topics right now is the change that's coming from CFIA on Traceability.

"For the traceability changes that are coming in, we still have an opportunity to comment on those changes here up until the middle of June.  So that will be something that will be discussed widely I'm sure."

Producers will also get an update on what's been happening with the SSGA, the Canadian Cattle Association, the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Foundation, and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan.

Another key topic that isn't on the agenda,  but will no doubt be discussed during coffee breaks is the recent rain and pasture conditions.

Spring rains are always a welcome site to help recharge pastures.

Deobald is from the Hodgeville area and was one of the lucky producers that saw some rain recently.

"Right now I think most cows are out to grass and fortunately there is some grass to start with. There are still areas that are really quite dry and are in need of rain, but generally I think we've had a reasonably good start to the spring here."

Deobald notes the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association holds its 110TH Annual General Meeting and Convention runs June 4th to 5th in Moose Jaw.
