For the first time in 2021, the Estevan City Council is set to meet for a regular council meeting that has a large number of things going on, highlighted by the release of the budget for 2021 to the public for feedback.

"So far I feel very comfortable with the budget as councilors looked at it and we will be releasing it to the public. We will be waiting to hear feedback and we're looking forward to it," said Mayor Roy Ludwig.

If you review the budget yourself and have comments and concerns, they can be directed to either Ludwig himself, Estevan City Manager Jeff Ward, or to City Clerk Trudy Firth, all of which have their emails available by clicking here.

There are a large number of items on the agenda besides the budget tonight, which is later on in the meeting schedule, that will come before that. Under the reports section, the City is going to be looking at two different building reports that could bring some new business opportunities to Estevan.

"We've been quite active on the economic development side of things. We are looking at some development coming to our city so you know that's a positive sign."

Another big thing on the agenda is the naming rights to certain public facilities. Affinity Place will officially turn 10 years old this year, and with that, the naming rights have come up for renewal which means there could be a change in what we call the rink that would also provide an economic boost to the city. When it comes to any kind of celebration of the facility's anniversary, there isn't anything in place yet.

"We haven't had that discussion, but that doesn't preclude us from discussing any possibilities of celebrating 10 years."
