The No.2901 Estevan Elks Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp will be hosting the 102nd Anniversary Vimy Remembered Presentation in April. Its a way for the cadets to commemorate the memory of the southeast connection to the world war 1 battle. Captain Craig Bird with the army cadets tells us a little more about the event.

"Every year we have been putting on a Vimy remembered program its part of the cadet program where we do Canadian military history.

A few years ago we opened it up to the public and invited people out just to give people a little more information about world war 1 and the Estevan involvement with that conflict and its kind of grown.

Our main focus is Vimy Ridge and the battle that took place there because we have 11 soldiers from this area that were killed in that battle alone so its just to bring up a little bit of awareness and the history of the area with that battle."

The cadet corp has been holding the event for quite a few years, however, its only been opened to the public since 2016 when the cadet corp held the 100 anniversary of the Vimy Remembered Presentation. and according to Captain Bird, they are seeing good turnouts.

"It's gone over well, we have had quite a few members of the public come down, we do it in conjunction with the legion.

It's just nice to get members of the public out just to get that information out, there's a lot of people who are interested in the history who may have had fathers and grandfathers in the Canadian forces at that time so people are interested, it's just a renewal of history."

The day is chocked full of historical information, with a group of collectors assembling a mini-museum for people to examine, along with a 2 hour presentation all about Vimy and the contribution from the southeast,  after lunch they head over to cenotaph across from city hall and do a mini-remembrance day ceremony where the cadets form up on parade and lay reefs.

If anyone would like to attend the event it's free to the public and takes place on April 6th at 10:00 a.m at the Legion hall.
