Estevan is taking an active role in Pride this year, launching the 2018 Estevan Pride Week events with presentations from Councillor Shelley Veroba, the NDP Diversity and Human Rights Critic, the Estevan City Police, the Southeast Cornerstone School Division, and St. Gile's Anglican Church.

As Pride sweeps through the province this upcoming month (Pride Month begins June 1st across Saskatchewan), Estevan participates in the observation for the second year in a row. While many organizations contribute to Estevan's Pride Week, local high school students from the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) have played a fundamental role in organizing this year's events. Megan Zemlack, one of the GSA captains at the Estevan Comprehensive School, was present this afternoon and explained to us that the GSA is a welcoming and inclusive school club that works to spread education and awareness at the school and in the community.

After kind words from the speakers, Sun 102 was happy to enjoy some dessert and visit with members of the community in attendance. There's nothing better than cake and rainbows!

This year's Pride Week theme is "True Colours" and like Cindy Lauper said, "Don't be afraid to let them show / Your true colors / True colors are beautiful / Like a rainbow".
