A local Ukrainian woman is coordinating a donation drive in Estevan to help people who have been impacted by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Ivanna Vasylkiv lives in Estevan and has begun coordinating an effort to get local businesses and volunteers involved in donating non-perishable and first aid items.

"It is super easy, and then volunteers will pick those items up. Donations will be continued for the foreseeable future but we are looking to have our first delivery done on March 11," Vasylkiv said.

Vasylkiv said she's already had a lot of people reach out wanting to help. Participating businesses and drop off locations around Estevan will be confirmed in the coming days.

"They'll be items that are needed for people who lost their homes and are in most need," she said.

Vasylkiv moved to Estevan 10 years ago but still has family back in Ukraine and she said she's been in touch with them every day.

"What we see on the news...the situation in real life is even worse from what we see or what we hear," she said. "It is devastating and unbelievable what is happening. No one needs this war, and we are just praying for it to end."
