Crews were busy Friday morning pouring concrete for the new permanent outdoor rink at the Hillside Kin-Park.

The next phase of the project includes a building for change rooms. The third phase will be the installation of a roof to protect the ice from the winter sun as well as provide a dry place to play during the summer.

Proceeds from Saturday's Savour the Southeast will help fund the rink.

The playground and green spaces are open while construction is underway. The public is asked to stay away from the southeast quadrant of the park while the concrete cures. Motorists are also asked to avoid the area while the work is ongoing.

"This includes all access routes off Victoria Avenue, across from the park, especially the back alleys," stated City Safety Officer Helen Fornwald.
