The Estevan Viragos hit a milestone over the weekend as they continue to build their young's girls football team.

The team scored their first touchdown of the season in a game on Saturday against Moosomin. It was also the first major for the team since they joined the Prairie Girls Football League.

"It was a sweep play...we caught them way off guard. Morgan Hase took a hand off from Sarah Greening and she went wide for 60 yards for a touchdown," head coach Mark Tribiger said. "The girls got pretty excited over it and so was I."

Hase described the play in more detail.

"It was called a jet sweep. It's where the fullback and the running back get a fake hand off and you go after them and get it (the ball) and run to the other side, and that's how I got it," said Hase, who plays receiver. "I was just surprised because I went late on the play because I couldn't hear her (the quarterback)."

And her thoughts on being the first Viragos player to score a touchdown?

"That's cool, yeah," Hase said.

Tribiger hopes the scoring play can give his group some confidence heading into this Friday's game in Melville, with a playoff spot still on the line.

"We're hoping now that we've got that monkey off our back that the points start coming in waves here now," he said.
