This morning I was joined by Rebecca Westling with the City of Estevan.

Last night City Council passed the relocation of the Estevan Visitors Center from highway 39 west to inside the Estevan Leisure Center across from the weight room.

The change was based on usage statistics over the past number of years as well as numbers that Tourism Saskatchewan has shared over the years. Closures of Visitor centers is not an uncommon thing. In fact it is being seen industry wide as  most visitors are tending to plan prior to their holidays and using online content as their tool of planning.

The new location will continue to be the meeting are for Energy tours as well as a visitor center to get travel information, maps and such for those that still use paper copies. They will continue to have the location open 7 days a week from 9am-5pm and two summer students will be on staff this summer.

The summer 2018 will be a transition and testing period to make an assessment to determine the ins and outs of the possibility of keeping the location open year round.

The existing location on highway 39 west will see come change as well. The building will be sold and the space will be converted into a free wifi area for those travelers that don't have data. The traveler can pull over, connect wifi and take a look at signage that we will install that will feature attractions, experiences, places to stay and restaurants in the area.

Thank you Rebecca for coming in, and joining the listeners on Sun 102.
