The Warm Welcome Kitchen is a program that provides free community suppers every Tuesday and Thursday for those in the city of Estevan.

They operate out of Trinity Lutheran Church, and while in the past they had dine-in and takeout options, right now it's only takeout due to the pandemic.

They've had a busy 2021, including one supper which was likely a new record as far as how many dishes they served.

Chairperson Wendy Godfrey says that overall, she's happy with how the year went.

"We're doing really well actually," said Godfrey, "We've got a lot of people coming out and enjoying the meals, so far everything's going well,"

Apparently, the volunteers who served a meal earlier this week had what may be a record-breaking attendance.

"I was just talking to them about Tuesday's night supper, and we had 88 people, which I think has got to be our all-time high for suppers. "

"We've been seeing anywhere from 50 to 70, which is pretty normal," said Godfrey, "I think that's about what we were running last year. As we get to colder weather and Christmas we seem to get more people."

Godfrey says operations have been running well even in spite of the pandemic.

"Everything's run really smoothly, considering the challenges of the pandemic and everything," said Godfrey, "We've been able to adjust what we do to work and still get the people fed, so I think all and all we have had a good year."

Warm Welcome Kitchen is also currently planning a Ukrainian Christmas supper, which will be taking place on January 6th thanks to Certified Energy.

The Kitchen is also currently looking for a cook who would start in January.
