The snow is still on the ground, but that's not stopping the Downtown Business Association from looking ahead to the summer months.

Chair of the association Laurel Buck and her team met earlier this week to discuss which events will be held this summer in the downtown area, and they've hammered out some tentative plans. They include:

  • A night market that will run from mid-June until mid-September
  • A street dance in July
  • A street fair in August

Buck said the night market will once again be held in the Royal Bank parking lot. This will be the second year for the night market, and they've hired a coordinator to help run the event.

"There's always entertainment and lots of interesting vendors, so we're looking forward to that," Buck said.

The street fair has traditionally been held in June, but Buck says they've decided to try to hold it in August instead this year. It was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

She said they also have plans in the works for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is on Friday, Sept. 30.

"We're looking at having something on the Truth and Reconciliation Day for downtown businesses and maybe partnering with Rotary (Club of Estevan) to do something city-wide," Buck said.

She added that she thinks people are ready to start going to events again following the pandemic.

"We're really looking forward to it, and I think people are ready to get out and enjoy things, and we're pretty excited," she said.

"We've got lots of new businesses on board this year, so we're hoping we can do bigger and better things."
