Estevan is playing host to some of the province's top senior golfers this week at Woodlawn Golf Club.

The 2022 Saskatchewan Senior Men's and Women's and Mid-Master's Championship kicked off on Tuesday with Round 1. Round 2 runs on Wednesday, and the final day of the tournament is on Thursday.

"We got 96 golfers which is a fantastic turnout," said Golf Saskatchewan Director of Communications Clark Stork. "When you keep our provincials in the bigger centres, Regina, Saskatoon, the turnout's always really good...but we're pleasantly surprised to have almost 100 golfers down here, and yeah it's been just a great week here halfway through."

The event has also attracted several Estevan-born golfers who are members at Woodlawn.

"The local golfers...they think they've got an advantage because they know the course so well, and they do, but it's just so great to have the local support. Not only playing, but plenty of volunteers as well," Stork said.

The last Golf Saskatchewan tournament held in Estevan was back in 2015 for a men's amateur event.

Stork said the feedback from the golfers on the condition of the course has been excellent.

"Everyone thinks it's absolutely fantastic. The greens are rolling great, they're nice and quick but they're pure," he said. "A little bit of wind but that'll keep all the players honest. But overall the feedback has been fantastic."
