A young driver was charged after driving on the wrong side of the road Thursday night in a stunt they were apparently doing for a TikTok video.

The Estevan Police Service had a member situated in a parking lot at Souris Avenue North monitoring traffic when they saw a car drive by heading southbound in the northbound lane.

"That person was charged for a traffic safety offence," said Sgt. Tyler McMillen. "But in speaking with the driver, the concerning part about it is the driving actions came as a result of them making a TikTok video."

McMillen said there were multiple people in the vehicle, and the driver wasn't the one shooting the video.

But he said it's an important reminder for parents to talk about road safety with their kids.

"We just want to encourage parents to speak to their children about driving behaviours and how deadly the consequences could be as a result and talk to them about Tik Tok and social media and things like that and making the proper choices. We want them to have fun with those videos, but driving in the opposite lane of travel is very risky because there's lots of pedestrian bicycle traffic, vehicle traffic, that might come out and not be expected."
