Although his entries didn't win, Estevan filmmaker Curtis McGillivray still enjoyed attending another Yorkton Film Festival this past weekend.

McGillivray had two entries nominated at the 76th annual event.

"We had The Moose Whisperer. That was in for Best Community Television as well as Together Forever in the Clouds, which was nominated for the Ruth Shaw Best of Saskatchewan," McGillivray said. "And it was really nice to be able to watch them on a little bit of a larger screen than we're used to, but also be able to share those experiences with other people who were maybe watching it for the first time and get to hear their questions and their comments and how much they appreciated the work that you've put into making these films possible."

"So getting to watch your films at festivals and screenings is always a unique experience."

McGillivray said he enjoys coming to Yorkton to celebrate filmmakers across Saskatchewan.

"It's always fantastic to come to Yorkton in order to celebrate filmmaking not only by the amazing filmmakers within our province, but also across the country and internationally," he said. "It's a great honor to be nominated even just to begin with because it's a nice reassurance that you're on the right path and you're doing some amazing work that is heading in the right direction. But it's also good to see the other work that people are doing to kind of remind you where you can keep growing in certain areas."

"It's never too late to keep learning."

McGillivray added that the festival presented a great opportunity for him to network.

"Yorkton is a fantastic film festival...it's almost like a small town environment, so it allows you to get to chat with a bunch of people on multiple occasions and have conversations with different networks and individuals who might be interested in working with you or helping you develop projects further," he said.
