MITCHELL:

It is with sincere sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, Anne Maria Mitchell of Red Deer, Alberta, on April 6, 2018 at the age of 84. Anne was born in Torquay, Saskatchewan on August 4, 1933.

In her early years, she lived on a farm southwest of Torquay, until she met the love of her life, Peter Mitchell. They married in June of 1955, moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan, had five children and were together until Peter’s passing in 2003. Anne was a wonderful stay at home mom for several years and later worked at Estevan St. Joseph’s Hospital, in the Laundry Unit. During this time, Anne and Peter would annually grow and maintain a large garden for friends and family to enjoy. Family functions/gatherings, maintaining an impeccably clean and organized home, attending church and playing Bingo were her passions. Peter and Anne could be seen with the Bingo bags heading out for an evening, or afternoon of Bingo and visiting with friends, at the local bingo halls.

Family meals were a big pleasure for Anne with plenty of cabbage rolls, perogies, schupe noodla, turkey and apple crisp for the family and friends to enjoy. A lively card game of Thirty-One most often followed the awesome meal. Her love and care of her family was always number one. Anne and Peter moved from Estevan to Red Deer, Alberta in 1980, where she worked at the Michener Center as a Servery Aide, until her retirement in 1995. Her happy caring demeanour and great smile endowed her to all the visitors, residents and staff alike. After Anne’s retirement, she was often seen out on her long walks (odd time running) in the morning with friends, and ending up at the local coffee shop, for an early morning visit. In 2009, Anne was diagnosed with Dementia and later moved to the Red Deer West Park Lodge, where she lived until her passing. Anne was always happy and kind to everyone she came in contact with. At work, Bingo or just out for a walk, she always had a smile on her face and made everyone feel special. Anne’s laughter, kindness and love will be so very missed by all who met her. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff of the West Park Lodge, who were so kind and loving to Anne.

Anne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dan Mitchell of Estevan, Michael Mitchell, Candice (Lyle) Miner and Charlene (Bill) Dolan, all of Red Deer; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother, Joe Schmidt of Grand Forks, B.C. and son-in-law, Dave Boyd of Calgary. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Cecilia and John Schmidt, her husband, Peter Paul Mitchell, daughter, Sharon Ann Boyd, grandsons, Shawn Daniel Mitchell and Ryan Tyson Mitchell, and brothers, Lawrence and Matt Schmidt.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 - 48A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Father Jozef Wroblewski, Celebrant.
