The Westmoreland AA Peewee Bruins began a battle of two titans in the league final on Saturday at home against Swift Current.

The opener of the Best-of-3 would be played in Estevan, with Swift Current electing for the final two games to be played in their home rink.

The Bruins would look to jump ahead in the series and use home ice to their advantage in Game 1.

Estevan got on the board first with Carson Birnie opening the scoring nine minutes in to make it 1-0 for the home team. However, Swift Current would respond just 8 seconds later to tie the game up.

But the Bruins would take the lead into the intermission as Keagan Merriman scored with just over a minute left to put Estevan ahead 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The AA Peewee would come out of the intermission firing and extended their lead to 4-1.

First, Kaden Chrest scored just over a minute into the 2nd period from Landon Kaban and Mason Fichter for the two goal lead. Then at the 14:24 mark, Merriman scored his second goal of the game to put Estevan up 4-1.

But that's when Swift Current started storming back. The Broncos scored three unanswered goals to end the 2nd period to tie the game once again at 4-4 entering the final period of play.

Swift Current took their first lead of the game with 12:43 left in regulation going up 5-4. The Bruins would push hard to try and come up with at least one goal to force overtime, but were unsuccessful as the Broncos stole Game 1 in Estevan.

The AA Peewee Bruins will now have to win both remaining games on the road to claim the league title.

Game 2 is Monday evening at 5:30 in Swift Current. If necessary, Game 3 will be Wednesday, March 15 at 6:45 in Swift Current.
