It took longer than they had hoped, but the Estevan Apex Bruins managed to grab their first win of the season on Sunday after losses on Friday and Saturday.

In their 6-3 loss to the Regina Vics on Friday night, Tristian Seeman would open the scoring for the Bruins with an unassisted goal to give the black and gold a 1-0 lead after the first period. The Vics would storm out of the gate in the second period and take a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame. The Vics would add three more to their lead in the first ten minutes of the period to go up 6-1. Daymon Wanner would cut into that lead with a pair of goals in the final five minutes, but that would be all from Regina on Friday.

The Bruins continued their road trip on Saturday night when they took to the ice at the Bethune Arena. The Bethune/Lumsden Lions would go up 1-0, just 38 seconds into the first period. Just like he did on Friday night, Tristian Seeman would open the scoring for the Bruins on the power play from Dawson Schaff and Jaiden Gervais to tie the game at 1-1. Just four minutes later the same trio would connect once more on the power play to go up 2-1, this time Gervais from Seeman and Schaff.

Terran Holzer would add to the Bruins lead at the start of period two to go up 3-1, with assists coming from Tristian Seeman and Triston Sorenson. The Lions would respond with back to back goals only 26 seconds apart to tie the game at 3-3. Jaiden Gervais would put the Bruins up 4-3 on a shorthanded goal with only 3:13 left in the second. The Lions would go on to score four unanswered to steal a 7-4 win from the Apex Bruins.

The boys from Estevan returned to home ice on Sunday to host the Regina Capitals. The Bruins would face some adversity early in the game when the Capitals took a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the opening period. Cale Adams would receive a pass on the power play from Josh Romanyk to get the Bruins back in the game with only 13 seconds left in the first.

Dawson Schaff would find the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 just 35 seconds into the second, on a pass from Jaiden Gervais. Under one minute later, the Capitals would tie the game at 3-3. The Bruins went on to score four unanswered goals of their own with a pair coming from Jaiden Gervais and Cale Adams on the power play. Josh Romanyk would seal the deal for the Bruins with one goal to close out the second and another late in the third to give the Bruins a 6-3 win over the Regina Capitals.

Now 1-4-2-0 on the season, the Bruins travel to Weyburn on Tuesday, October 24th to take on the league leading 4-0-1 Weyburn Wings at 7:45.
