The Estevan Apex Bruins remain perfect after a pair of close contests on the weekend in the Saskatchewan U18 AA Hockey League.

The Bruins beat the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox 4-2 on Saturday, following a 4-3 decision at Affinity Place in Estevan on Friday. The Bruins are now 3-0-0 this season, while Notre Dame is 0-4-0.

Estevan erupted to a four-goal lead on Saturday, with first-period goals from Blayze Siebert and Chaz Sylvestre and second-period markers from Tayce Miller and Mason Fichter. Fichter's was on the power play.

Notre Dame's Hugh Nestor added a pair on the man advantage in the third, just over two and a half minutes apart.

Layne Gilroy stopped 31 of 33 shots, improving to 2-0-0.


A third-period marker from Declyn Henderson was the marker on Friday, as the Bruins edged the Hounds 4-3.

Henderson's second of the season came on the power play with the game tied 3-3 and 4:55 remaining in regulation.

Estevan had jumped to a 2-0 first-period lead with goals from Conner Gardiner and Spencer Copeland, but Notre Dame tallied twice in the second before Austin Davis put Estevan up 3-2. Notre Dame tied it on a goal from Cyril Jebousek late in the second.

Lucas Day earned the win for Estevan, turning aside 24 of 27 shots.


Estevan is back on the road Friday with a tilt against the 4-0-0 Lumsden Bethune Lions in Lumsden at 8:30 p.m. The two teams are then in Estevan on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start.
