Minor football has kicked off once again in southeast Saskatchewan, and that means that the Estevan Lions Club Bantam Oilers will be taking to the field for another season.

Coach Paul Duncan was encouraged by his player's performance.

"We've been a little bit hesitant out there, but the kids are growing in confidence everyday that we have a chance to practice and everyday that we play. Our viewpoint is optimistic, and I think that as the train starts leaving the station, we'll get a full head of steam and start rolling over some people."

When it comes to his strategy, Duncan expressed that he wants the kids to have fun, first and foremost.

"Being able to complete a few more passes down the field would be fantastic for us," he added.

"The one thing that we kind of get tired of seeing in minor sports is running plays all the time. So we'd like to change it up a little bit, develop the football IQ's of our players, and get them as well rounded as possible."

"A passing game is very important because it helps open up the run game, just like the run game helps open up the passing game. With the kids that we have, I think we have a great mix of speed, we just have to make sure that our hearts are in it and we're pushing forward as much as we possibly can," said Duncan, adding that his team is definitely excited.

The team heads to Moose Jaw to take on the Razorbacks on Friday, September 22nd at 8:00 PM.
