The Estevan Sharks Bantam water polo boys and girls teams both traveled to Regina last weekend and competed in the Bantam Under 14 tournament in Regina on Sunday, opening the fall season in the pool.

The Sharks boys squad left the Lawson Aquatic Centre winning two games and losing four close games against the competing Weyburn/Saskatoon team and two Regina teams. The boys were led by veteran Cameron Gillingham and coach Tania Andrist noted that the team played in some tight games.

"Our record really didn't indicate the level of play because their games were extremely close," Andrist said. "These are development tournaments so it's not about the winning and losing, it's about how much did they learn and if they had fun when they were playing"

The girls team fought hard against a tough Weyburn/Saskatoon combined team and three Regina teams, coming away with two wins and one loss. Josie Andrist led the way for the girls and led by example on a team with some young inexperienced players.

"They're a very strong girls team and we have some really experienced players and a couple who have never played before. It was amazing to watch these young girls who have never played in a water polo game and watch them succeed. To have new players go out there and enjoy themselves that much was really good to see."

This coming weekend, the Sharks Mini Atom and Atom players will be hosting their own tournament on Sunday, October 29 at the R.M. of Estevan Leisure Centre from 9am-5pm. The Cadet Sharks will be travelling to Regina for a tournament on Sunday, October 29 as well.
