The last weekend before the Christmas weekend has begun in the Big Six, beginning with the feature game of the night, the Midale Mustangs and the Oxbow Huskies. The two teams have had their struggles so far this season, although they've had some solid play throughout their season's so far.

Midale had just broke a five game losing streak and was looking to continue the momentum against another team that's had their struggles. Oxbow, despite having one of the best first lines in the league, walked into the contest on a three game losing streak and looked to turn the corner before the end of the first half of the season.

The game started with some back and forth play between the two teams, each getting a few chances at either end before Midale finally got the scoring cracked open. Garrett Sherlock would break down the left side of the ice and fire a shot at Tyler Myers, and Myers would make the first save, but Sherlock would tap in his own rebound and score the game's first goal five minutes in.

It would take almost two minutes exactly later before Oxbow would answer. They'd dump the puck in deep and Kolby Fleury would follow in with an aggressive forecheck, and he would knock the defender off the puck, leaving Reed Loucks to pick up the puck and fire a shot that Mustang's goaltender Derek Tendler would stop, but it would trickle through a moment later and Loucks would tap in the loose puck to tie the game.

Before the end of the period, Connor Burke would take the lead back for the Mustangs thanks to a beautiful stretch pass from Garrett Sherlock, rink wide from blue line to blue line, and Burke would cut in and again have to tap in his own rebound to got up by one.

After the first, 2-1 Midale.

From there, the second period would blow this game wide open, at least for the Mustangs. Burke would get the scoring started once again after Midale pressed hard at the beggining of the second to pot his second. Then Oxbow would start to take a few penalties and it would make it easier for Adam Ziegler to get another goal on the board on the powerplay, up 4-1 now.

Then, after Oxbow would kill another penalty, and as they were chasing, Brad Tomiski would sneak behind the defence, getting a beautfiul feed from Grant Jansen, and after making a single move, Tomiski would rip a wrist shot over the blocker of Tyler Myers and score goal #5 for the Mustangs and ending Myers' night, bringing in Ethan Veroba.

The addition of Veroba must've sparked his team when they had a powerplay incoming before Derek Cooney would score with six men on the ice, and bringing the period as close as it would get.

The penalty bug would then return for Oxbow and Burke would capitalize for the third and final time of the night, getting the Hat Trick with 7:47 showing on the clock. One more goal would be added before the end of the period, this time a wraparound attempt as Ethan Orstad would try the fivehole, but instead the puck woud be steered aside to the stick of Matthew Geske easy tap in. After the second, not a single puck would enter the net for either team and the score after two would hold.

FINAL SCORE FROM MIDALE: 7-2 Midale

OTHER SCORES:

The Carlyle Cougars extend their league to a total of 16 points with a surprisingly tight 5-4 win over the Arcola/Kisbey Combines who still only have a single point this season.

The streak of wins the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings were piling up finally broke at the hands of last year's champions, the Redvers Rockets. The Rockets have now won two straight and look to continue their momentum into the New Year.
