HIGHLIGHTS:

The lone game in the Big Six Hockey League on Tuesday night provided plenty of late-game dramatics for the fans in Oxbow and those listening to the feature broadcast on CJ1150.

The hometown Huskies held off a furious 3rd period push from the visiting Carlyle Cougars, skating away with a 6-3 victory after the two teams combined for six goals in the final period.

With both teams entering play on losing streaks (Oxbow - 2 games, Carlyle - 4 games), there was plenty of incentive to come out with a great effort. However, for the vast majority of the first two periods, it would be Oxbow dictating the pace of play over Carlyle.

The Huskies scored the only goal of the opening period. Taysen Holt's shot went off the post and past Carlyle netminder Kruz Wilson just 2:11 into the game to make it 1-0 for Oxbow. With the goal, Holt gained sole possession of top spot in the Big Six scoring race early this season.

The Final Goal Scored By Oxbow With 3:17 Remaining.

Oxbow would add two goals in the 2nd period thanks to a pair of powerplay goals. First, it would be Dylan Haygarth potting his first goal of the year to make it 2-0. The Huskies added another on the man advantage as Holt deflected his second goal of the game into the net to increase Oxbow's lead to 3-0 after 40 minutes.

Despite being outplayed for the first two periods, the Cougars would slowly begin chipping away at the deficit in the 3rd period. First, it would be Billy Greenwood stepping over the blueline and sniping his first of the season past Oxbow's Ethan Veroba to make it a two-goal game.

Carlyle would cut Oxbow's lead down to 3-2 with 7:17 left in regulation, as Cooper Fox scored his team-leading 7th goal of the year off the rush. With all the momentum on Carlyle's side, the Huskies' top line of Holt, Brycen Odgers and Derek Cooney stepped up to lead Oxbow back on the very next shift.

Holt would send a nifty pass out from behind the net to Odgers, who had time to tuck in his 5th goal of the year and make it 4-2. On the same shift, Holt would finish off his hat trick with a quick wrap-around past the outstretched pad of Wilson to suddenly restore Oxbow's three-goal lead at 5-2.

The scoring frenzy wouldn't stop there, as Carlyle captain Ben Johnstone responded for the Cougars' on the very next shift to make it 5-3. The two teams combined to score four goals in less than two minutes (1:49) of game action.

But that's as close as Carlyle's comeback attempt would get, as Odgers added his second goal of the game on a late powerplay to make the final score 6-3.

Oxbow's top line of Holt-Odgers-Cooney combined for 5 goals and 10 points in the victory. Holt leads the Big Six in scoring with 16 points (7G, 9A) in 6 games. Both Ethan Veroba of Oxbow and Kruz Wilson of Carlyle performed strong in goal for their respective teams.
