The Carnduff Red Devils and Odessa/Vibank Bruins went back-and-forth in their opening game of the Provincial 'B' South Semi-Final on Friday night.

After defeating the Rocanville Tigers in their first series, Carnduff travelled to Odessa to take on the Bruins who had a bye in the first round.

It would be the home team from Odessa getting out in front early, with Carnduff able to escape the first period down just 2-0. Scoring for the Bruins would be Justin Schaeffer (PP) and Jeremy Seitz.

The Red Devils got stronger as the game went along however, as Carnduff scored three unanswered goals from Blake McMillen, Nico Anderson and Kody Martin in the 2nd period to suddenly take a 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.

Odessa would tie the game early in the third period with Branden Sentees making it 3-3. Carnduff would respond with markers from Cody Moore and Martin's second of the game to go up 5-3. Odessa's Schaeffer his second of the game with just under four minutes remaining to make the final 5-4 in Game 1. Carnduff returns home with a one-goal lead in the two-game/total-point series.

Defenceman Zach Halvorson served the second of a three-game suspension stemming from the end of Game 2 against Rocanville. He will miss Sunday's playoff game against the Wawota Flyers and return to the lineup for Game 2 of the provincial series.

Game 2 is next Tuesday, February 27th at the Fast Centennial Arena in Carnduff. There will be a guaranteed 50/50 prize of $4,000 in what's expected to be a large crowd in Carnduff.
