Saturday night in the Big Six Hockey League kicked off in what some could look at as an upset.

The league leading Carnduff Red Devils went down to Georgia...really Yellow Grass to take on the 5th place Wheat Kings. Devin Cobbold got the puck in the net for the home squad less than halfway into the first frame, while Shawn Gallant responded for the visitors. Justin Richter and Jake Boyes each added a tally to even things out at 2-2 heading into the first intermission. Yellow Grass took over in the second, meshing two more pucks to one of Carnduff's, while each side notched one more goal in the third period. The Wheat Kings skated away with a 5-4 victory.

The Midale Mustangs opened their doors to the Carlyle Cougars not too long afterwards. Midale found the net twice in the first period, thanks to Tyler Hoium and Braden Kmita, while Ben Johnstone put Carlyle on the board. Hoium continued his strong showing in the second by putting another puck past Kruise Wilson of the Cougars, before Jordan Fox narrowed the lead. The third frame saw Hoium step up once again to add another tally for the Mustangs, and Cooper Fox added a goal for the Cougars to close the lead once again. However, that wasn't quite enough to overcome Midale, who walked away with the 4-3 win.

Meanwhile, the Bienfait Coalers hit the road to Redvers to try and defuse the Rockets. While the two teams entered the locker room after the first frame tied at one a piece, Bienfait came back out with the afterburners to notch two goals to only one of the Rockets. The same scenario repeated in the third period to the final score of 5-2 for the Coalers.

The fourth contest of the night saw the Arcola/Kisbey Combines host the Oxbow Huskies, who promptly asserted their dominance with 6 netted pucks in the first frame, while Lucas Hislop and Rhett Palmer put goals on the board for Arcola. Both sides were held to just one goal a piece in the second period, and two each in the third to bring the final score to 9-6 for Oxbow.

Big Six Hockey action resumes on Monday when Arcola travels to Midale to play the Mustangs at 8:00 PM.
