It was a packed house in the Estevan Comprehensive School cafeteria on Friday night, as the Juvenile Broomball National Championships awards banquet took place, recognizing the teams, coaches and individual players for their hard work and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Shelly Schroeder is the Co-Chair of the events, and she noted that they were sold out for the occasion.

"We capped at 500 tickets only because we thought it would be a little tight, and it was. The bulk of the room was the athletes and their family members who traveled across the country to attend here."

She shared one point in particular in the week that stood out to her.

"We had a little bit of an incident where one of the female players got hurt on the ice. The support for her from the stands was truly amazing. I think that is what really signifies what this event is all about."

Schroeder said that, overall, the games have gone well.

"It don't think we anticipated how much work this was going to be once everybody got here, but the kids are fun to watch and interact with.

She noted that the 16 teams that arrived from across Canada included a couple from Quebec, and that posed a language barrier. However, interpreters were available and everything went smoothly.

In addition, Schroeder mentioned that many positive comments were received regarding the sporting facilities.

"It think that this just goes to show that when the people of Estevan want, we can put on a really great show."

She concluded by expressing their thanks their sponsors, supporters and the community.
