The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins returned home late Wednesday night after salvaging a point against the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

The Bruins' scored three goals in the 3rd period, coming back from a 4-1 deficit to start the final frame, forcing overtime on the road. However, the comeback fell just short as Notre Dame's Chaz Smedsrud scored the game-winner 34 seconds into the extra frame to defeat Estevan 5-4.

After a scoreless opening period, it would be the hometown Hounds jumping way out in front in the 2nd period. Notre Dame's Connor Mylymok scored 1:21 into the middle frame to take the lead then Alec Zawatsky added another halfway through the period to make it 2-0.

Hayden Guilderson 5th goal of the season would get Estevan on the board just over a minute later to make it 2-1. However, the Hounds would score twice more in the final three minutes from Chance Longjohn (PP) and Riley Perka to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.

Reigning SJHL Player-of-the-Week Zach Goberis starting the Bruins' comeback in the final period, scoring his 10th goal of the season on the powerplay to make it 4-2.

With only three minutes left in regulation, captain Jake Fletcher scored his 4th of the year to cut the deficit to 4-3. Then, with goaltender Matt Lukacs on the bench for the extra attacker, SJHL-leading goal scorer Michael McChesney potted his 11th goal of the year past Hounds' goaltender Jacob Standen to tie the game at 4-4 and force overtime.

The Hounds wouldn't let the game completely slip away from them though, with Smedsrud scoring in the first minute of 3-on-3 overtime to give Notre Dame the 5-4 victory.

The Bruins' (6-2-1) return to Affinity Place on Friday night for just their third true home game of the season. The undefeated Melfort Mustangs (8-0-0) take on Estevan for the first time this season. Estevan leads the SJHL in goals scored (49 in 9 games, 5.4/game) while Melfort leads the SJHL in goals against (14 in 8 games, 1.75/game).
