The Estevan Bruins fell flat on Tuesday, November 21, and the Nipawin Hawks took advantage, heavily outshooting Estevan and walking away with a 2-1 victory.

Jake Fletcher scored the Bruins only goal in the first period as the Bruins mustered just shots 21 in three periods.

Nipawin frustrated the Bruins shooters with tight defense and a swarm-style fore check that stymied Estevan all game long.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Fletcher’s goal opened the scoring despite the Bruins being heavily outshot, as he walked over the Hawks blue line and fired a shot past Hawks goalie Jake Anthony. Anthony never got a clean look at the shot, and it was the first shot the Bruins directed at him that caught him off guard.

That was the last goal the Hawks netminder would allow, however, as the Bruins had very few good looks at the net afterwards. Nipawin equaled the score before the period was out on a bank-shot by Logan Cassavant, set up by Keillan Olson.

Olson was back at it in the second period when a shot by Josh McDougal pinballed around in front and landed right in front of Olson. He backhanded it past Matt Lukacs to give the Hawks a lead they never surrendered.

Lukacs did his best to hold Estevan in it. He made 44 saves on 46 shots, including several on Hawks leading goal scorer Brandan Arnold. The Bruins couldn’t live up to their goaltenders effort, however.

Estevan had some chances in the third period, including a penalty shot by Matthew Chekay. Chekay faked a shot and stepped to the forehand, but Anthony outwaited him and made the save.

Estevan gets back to business on Wednesday against the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Catch that game on Rock 106.

GAME NOTES

A number of Bruins saw their point streaks come to an end, including Kaelan Holt, whose four-game goal streak was snapped.

Zach Goberis was held without a point, extending his goalless streak to a season high three games.

The game saw two fights as Hayden Guilderson squared off with Carter Sawatzky in the second period and Jake Tesarowski taking on the much larger Jordan Simoneau in the third.
