Jennifer Jones and Matt Dunstone jumped out to similar early leads, but with opposite results, in the third and final draw Wednesday in the Home Hardware Canada Cup.

With both teams seeking their first win of the day, Dunstone and company started with two points and the hammer over Team Koe in the first end and gained another point in the second, before their lead was cut to one several minutes later. By the seventh end, however, Koe began to pull away with 2 and 3 point ends to go up 7-5. Despite several close shots, Dunstone fell to 0-2 with a 9-6 loss.

"You've just got to move on. We can't change anything about our record anymore, four wins is going to get us into the playoffs. It doesn't really matter when it happens," said the disappointed skip.

Matt Dunstone watches his rock during the third draw Wednesday evening.

Carruthers and Bottcher traded points and leads throughout the first several ends, neither able to establish a strong edge over the other. At least, until the 6th end. Several well played shots gave them another four points to put them up 7-4, and another two in the seventh to take a commanding 9-4 lead. At that point, Carruthers admitted defeat, conceding the game 9-5 after the 8th end.

"We went from being one down...to the game being over," stated Brendan Bottcher of the four point end that turned the tables, "That's awesome. In five-rock rule you can never get too complacent though. We still had to play out the last four (ends), but it's huge, against any of these big teams out there. If you can get a three or a four, that should be on your way to victory."

"I think we're just going into tomorrow on the high we finished tonight, hopefully we can keep playing well."

Jones snagged four points through the first two ends before Robertson found a way to the scoreboard with two in the third. Darcy and her crew continued to claw their way back, finding three in the 6th end to knot the score at 5. A point in the seventh and three more in the ninth end gave Jones a 9-7 victory to remain undefeated after day one.

"We're happy with the 2-0 record. (There's) a couple shots we'd like back, for sure, but all in all I thought we played better this game than the first, and that's a great trend to have. We'll have to be sharp Thursday morning," she said following the game.

Rachel Homan played a close defensive game through the first three ends, gaining a point in each before Scheidegger took two in the fourth. By the seventh end, Homan lead 5-3, but points in three straight ends for Scheidegger kept themselves out of the loss column, a 7-5 win over Homan.

Mike McEwen releases a rock for Team Carruthers during their 9-5 loss to Bottcher in draw 3.

Meanwhile, Team Flaxey picked up momentum as the draw went on, leading Einarson 5-2 by the mid-point of the game until the latter found two points in the fifth end. That was followed by another two, putting Einarson in the lead 6-5 before a blank 7th end. Flaxey would concede after the ninth, 7-6.

Four teams remain undefeated as draw 4 gets under way Thursday morning at 9:00 AM. Homan takes on Walker, Einarson faces Jones, Gushue plays Epping, Scheidegger goes up against Carey, and Carruthers takes on Jacobs.
