The Gordon F. Kells High School girls volleyball team from Carlyle was recognized by the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association with a Sportsmanship award for their outstanding job in hosting provincials.

"We had just a phenomenal supporting group from not just the girls, but the organizers, volunteers and community," Girls Assistant Coach, Trent Johnson said. "Without a doubt we put on one of the best shows in provincials from what I've been told from other coaches. As a result of that, that's why we received the sportsmanship award."

"It felt phenomenal to get the award, one of our goals was to show that we could put on a first class event for the town of Carlyle and south east Saskatchewan, and that's what we did."

As for the girls, they enjoyed a great year on the court which Johnson said wasn't a surprise due to the quality people and talent who are on the team.

"We had a very successful year with four graduating grade twelve players who were very strong this year. We were quite confident going into provincials seeded number four in the province after a very successful tournament season, we won three invitational tournaments along with a few finishes in second," Johnson concluded.
