Two games were on the schedule in the Big Six Hockey League for Saturday night.

The Arcola/Kisbey Combines paid a visit to the Carnduff Red Devils for a high scoring match.

Three goals in the first period got things started for the home team and set them well on their way to a blow out, while the visitors were unable to get a single puck into the net. However, the tables turned in the second frame, as Arcola seemed to catch a second wind and promptly slammed three goals into the mesh, answered by only one from Carnduff.

The temporary domination didn't last long though, as the Red Devils came out for an explosive third period. The Combines were unable to get another puck in edgewise as 5 more goals were placed on the board by Carnduff. When the final buzzer sounded, the numbers showed a 9-3 victory for the home skates.

That said, Arcola netminder Zach Eaton may have done quite a few kids a big favour when the first puck was slipped between his pads by Carnduff's Jake Boyes. It was the Salvation Army's Teddy Bear Toss night, and the first goal from the Red Devils was the cue for excited fans to rain stuffed animals down on the ice, which were then collected for donation to lonely children.

"It was pretty exciting," said Boyes of his being the one to pull the trigger, "it was a good crowd, and seeing all the bears rain down was pretty cool. It's the second year we've done it now, and it's a great cause. Hopefully we'll keep doing it for many years to come."

The Midale Mustangs and Yellow Grass Wheat Kings also faced off on the latter's ice, for a little lower scoring match.

Two goals from Yellow Grass were answered by one from the visitors, closing the first frame with a 2-1 edge for the Wheat Kings. Two more pucks were netted in the second period, split between the two sides, one each. The game winner found the back of the mesh for the home team to give them the 5-2 victory.
