The Canadian Junior Football League decided that they can not have a regular-season or playoffs for the 2020 season.

“It is very disappointing to make this announcement today, but our priority is the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, and team administrators”, stated CJFL Commissioner Jim Pankovich.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the CJFL has followed all public health guidelines and will continue to support them in the future.

Unfortunately, at this stage, return to play guidelines do not allow for large enough gatherings to make training and competition safe for their athletes.

"Our teams play an important role in their communities. All CJFL teams will continue to engage with their players and communities as regional public health regulations allow."

They are looking forward to returning to competition in 2021.

Kolby Janssen joined the Regina Thunder last year and he said that he has loved football ever since high school and that it really stung hearing that he wouldn't be able to play this year.

"I feel for the fifth years that were going to be playing their last year. It sucks how we won't be able to compete at a normal football level. Rules should change to make the fifth years have another year. Doing so would bring better competition in the future. Our coaches made being away from the team easy and it is great to be apart of something bigger than just playing football."

Hunter Eagles is a grade 12 student at the ECS and he said that it really sucks for all of the kids that are needing that season to continue their careers in football.

"Lots of kids have been grinding in the offseason just to have everything they have worked for taken away from them. I hope this won't influence decisions made from the high school football teams as well. Football is my passion like so many of the other kids on these teams so it is a huge hit to all of us when stuff like this happens."
