Exciting sporting action is taking place over the weekend of March 17th to 19th in the Power Dodge Curling Center, as the 2017 CurlSask Provincial Men's and Women's Curling Championships come to town.

Pauline Ziehl-Grimsrude said that 6 years ago was the last time the event was hosted in Estevan, and she is pleased with the turnout and competition this time around.

"I think we are going to have some really good curling," she noted after the opening ceremonies Friday evening.

"In the men's draws this afternoon, we've seen some really high level shots. There's good sportsmanship and people are happy to be here."

CurlSask Liasion Barbara Swallow had nothing but praise for the arena.

"I think it's a wonderful venue. The ice surface is fabulous. It's got lots of curl, and it's nice and keen. This is a beautiful city here, with lots of room and accomodation for the curlers."

In addition, Swallow observed that she expects the competition to be entertaining.

"I think that the teams that are here are going to have to curl their best to come out on top."

The games continue throughout the weekend. The action picks up from where it left off on Friday night, to resume Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.

There is also local representation on the ice, namely, the Brent Gedak and Alex Williamson teams.

There is no admission costs to come and take in the events.
