A busy weekend lacrosse action is ahead in Estevan, and the Peewee and Bantam Voltz will be right in the thick of it. They already have a good start, and will look to build momentum as the event rolls on.

The opening ceremonies were held Friday evening, and saw the teams march in led by a pipe band, presentations from government and civic and SLA leaders. In addition, the Saskatchewan Rush lent their NLL championship cup as a special treat for the young athletes, for some normally rare photo opportunities.

Both head coaches noted that stiff competition some great lacrosse playing are in store.

"I think we're doing pretty good. We meet Swift Current later on, we beat them as separate teams, they're going to come out hard but I believe we can beat them overall as a combined team," stated Trevor McNabb, who's at the helm of the Peewee Voltz, 1-1 after Friday's action. They defeated the Yorkton Fighting Pikes 14-4 before falling 10-1 to the Regina Outlaws. He added that they'd be keeping an eye on the rest of the competition.

"We're watching, we're scouting, knowing what they're weaknesses and strengths are. It's not hard to see some of the strengths in these kids."

Meanwhile, success was thus-far elusive for the Bantam Voltz, 0-2 after defeats at the hands of the Saskatoon Tropics, 7-5 and the Moose Jaw Mustangs, 6-5.

"We did pretty well. I mean, we battled teams we haven't seen before and the young men and women we've got playing for us came together. They played great. We had a great season up to this point, now it's the best of the best come down to play us from around the province, and we're competing. We've still got a chance here, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the weekend goes," said Head Coach Dion Wagstaff.

The Peewees are back in action at 2:15 PM on Saturday against the Swift Current Rampage in the Power Dodge Ice Center for their final game of round robin play. The Bantams take on the Prince Albert Predators at noon for their final round robin in Affinity Place.
