The ECS Elecs Senior Boys volleyball team are off to a stellar start in their annual Co-op Series Challenge.

Postponed thanks to weather, the competition got underway on Wednesday in Weyburn instead of Estevan as originally planned.

The boys swept their best of five match in three straight sets, by scores of 25-10, 25-18, and 25-16.

"I think things turned out great for the boys...we pretty much dominated Weyburn, which I think we were expecting to do and prepared to do, and I think we accomplished out goal," said Coach Kevin Perkins.

"We've played them a few times already, so we kind of knew what to expect. They're a rebuilding team. I think they'll be really good next year, they've got some junior kids coming up that are really good."

The Elecs boys hope stay the course, and head into the rematch on Monday with confidence.

Meanwhile, the girls put up a lead several times in their match but were unable to hold any, falling 25-6, 25-18 and 25-17.

"The girls were super excited to get started. We went in fairly confident and willing to put up a good fight, and then we're not really sure what happened in the first set," said Head Coach Nicole Rogalski, adding that the play picked up as the match progressed.

"Weyburn is a very strong team, they had some really good serves, their defense were digging everything and blocking. I think, on the first set, it was our nerves that got us. With the last couple sets, our energy was up a little bit, we started swinging a little bit more, we were able to cover, but they're a really tough competition. For the next series on Monday, we're hoping to at least come out strong like we finished, and put up a really good fight."

She mentioned that they'll be working on their serving, in particular, to counter Weyburn's strength in that aspect.
