For the third consecutive year, the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs cheerleaders have won a provincial title.

ECS took the top spot in the Grade 9-12 scholastic intermediate division at the Saskatchewan Cheerleading Provincial Championships Saturday in Regina. Ten teams were entered in Estevan's division. Bonnie Chepil-Kvamme coach of the Elecs, "It was a great performance by ECS, better than expected. We were up against the most competition that as I a coach I have seen in 27 years, that we've been up against. It was quite the honor to have won, and not only have won it in our division which was scholastic 9-12 intermediate cheer. We also were grand slam champions so we also scored the highest in our entire session. Provincials were broken down into 4 sessions because there are so many athletes, there are thousands of athletes." Not only did ECS have the highest mark for their division, but they were also the top team for the entire session. "So we were in the last session of the day, and we received the highest overall score of any team that performed between 5 to 8:30 that night."

"This is an amazing team, and as a coach, you only have teams like this 2 0r 3 times in 27 years, so I have to say this group of athletes has worked and worked very hard to earn this. They have worked together some of them for 4 years, so they have really worked on their skills, taken corrections when they've been given, and worked cohesively as a team. It's a rare thing and I feel that they have worked hard and deserve it."

As for how Bonnie feels about those graduating, "I have 6 of them graduating, and this is something that is very important, we probably would have won the bid to go to Worlds because of our high score. But I had to decline World's, couldn't even entertain it because my grade twelves were graduating. World's is happening in 2020 and so I would have lost 6 girls, and it's hard knowing these girls for 3 to 4 years to see them go. I feel more like a mother than just a coach, and they are very near and dear to my heart, and they have done nothing but impress me."
