The Estevan Golden Eels can hang up their swim gear up to dry satisfied for the year. After a dominating season, they wrapped things up by winning their fifth provincial speed swimming championship in a row, and in home water to boot.

"They (the kids) were super pumped. We started out the day with our grand march in, and they were pumped right from the get-go. It was a really exciting day and a fun atmosphere at the pool," shared Melanie Dzeryck.

"I don't think I've ever seen the Leisure Center (RM of Estevan Aquatic Center) that packed. The kids had grandparents there, aunts and uncles, and it was really great for them to have that extra support that they normally don't get at the meets."

Five provincial records were broken by Estevan swimmers at the event, an unprecedented moment for the team. Their points finish was also around 200 points more than the past year's win, totaled from all 42 Estevan competitors.

Dzeryck added that she expects the numbers in to grow, especially as the success continues.
