The 83rd annual McLeod series between the Estevan and Weyburn senior high school basketball teams resumes on Tuesday.

After Weyburn put together a remarkable 33-year win streak, the Elecs have started a streak of their own which has now spanned over three years. After the senior girls and boys competed at their respective tournaments this past weekend, the two clubs will shift their focus and look to make it four in a row, when the girls tip off from the comp on Tuesday.

The senior girls team returned home from the Regina Campbell CIT tournament, with a 2-2 record.

In game one, the girls lost to a tough opponent in number one ranked LeBoldus, 81-53. Tatiana Dutka was named player of the game for her performance of 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Regina Christian edged the Elecs in game two 68-62, where Khrystal Montebon was awarded player of the game, scoring 8 points, adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

The girls picked up their first win of the tournament in their third game which was a 70-59 victory of the Winnipeg Buckeyes. Scoring 11 points and 4 assists, Morgan Fichter was named play of the game.

In their fourth and final game, the Elecs would pick up their second win of the tournament when they beat Saskatoon Bethlehem, 54-50. Sammy Wade picked up player of the game for her outstanding play, scoring 17 points and adding 14 rebounds.

The girls open up the first game of the Mcleod Series against Weyburn at 5:30 on Tuesday, February 6th inside ECS.

The ECS Elecs senior boys team was also on the road this weekend in Yorkton, where they fell to 1-2.

In the tournament opener, the boys would beat Melville and then go on to lose to Meadow Lake and Vanier.

Now, the focus shifts straight to the McLeod series for the boys team, who have already been thinking about putting together a four-peat.

"We have a few decades to match it, but I know the guys are geared up and it's always in the back of their minds," said boys coach, Dustin Wilson. "We don't want to put too much pressure on the kids to make them feel like they have to keep the streak going but we match up well against them, and they get amped up for these games."

"It would be nice to set the tone and put pressure on them. We've had the second half in two of the past three years and I think it's helped us up so we'll look to put the pressure on them," Wilson concluded.

The boys game against Weyburn will get underway at 7:30 p.m inside the comp, following the senior girls game.
