Two minor football teams from Estevan were involved in a classic Highway 39 rivalry over the weekend, with mixed results.

The ECS Elecs took on the Eagles in a close battle, however, they fell 41-20 in the end.

"It was a bounce back in some sorts for us, as we were coming off a tough loss to Yorkton. We played much better this time," said Head Coach Mark Schott.

"We still had some issues with giving up some big plays, but our defense had some big stands and forced some turnovers. The offence finally got into a little bit of a rhythm, had some drives that we finished with scoring plays, started to run the ball, and connected on a few passes. Things are coming together, but there's still a ways to go."

He added that they certainly won't settle for where they're at. With a full week of practice ahead of their next game, versus the Peacock Tornadoes on September 30th, he is optimistic.

"That should be a good, exciting game against one of the top teams in the province."

The Power Dodge Estevan Atom Cudas were also in action in Weyburn, and left with a decisive victory of 36-18 over the Ravens.

"It was a great combined team effort," noted Coach Kevin Mortensen.

The Cudas and Ravens will face off once again on September 30th, this time in Estevan.
