Elecs alumni Kolby Dyck receiving the Coaches Award.

A pair of alumni from the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team were recognized by their current team for their play and commitment this football season. Both Kolby Dyck and Garrett Ford now suit up for the Valley Huskers as part of the British Columbia Football Conference in the Canadian Junior Football League. On Sunday, at the Valley  Huskers awards banquet in Chilliwack, Dyck received the Coaches Award, while Ford was one of six to receive the Knights of Columbus Spirit Award.

The boys former coach Mark Schott wasn't shocked when he found out the news.

"They were both excellent players for us and worked extremely hard. I was not surprised they were able to move on to the next level and receive the recognition that they did."

Elecs alumni Garrett Ford receiving the Knights of Columbus Spirit Award."Kolby played slot in grade eleven with us and then moved to the full back position in his grade twelve year. He really excelled for us and was an excellent blocker. I'm not surprised he was moved to the offensive line. Hearing that he won the Coaches Award, it just reminds me of how Kolby was as a player, always a team first guy, extremely coachable and did what ever he was asked. Transitioning from a skill position on offense to a position that doesn't receive as much credit as they deserve, it just really speaks to the type of person that he is."

Schott also noted that although the Elecs program hasn't seen much team success, they have been able to graduate players to the junior ranks. It's something that he hopes will encourage more younger players to get involved.

"We have been quite successful sending players on to the next level throughout the history of our program. We have had a number of players move on to the CJFL and hopefully it inspires potential players in our area that there is some success stories in our program. If we can get more of those types of players involved, that will translate into more team success."
