It was a big weekend for a certain young Hunter Eagles of the Estevan Elecs.

Selected to the U16 Sask South football team, he traveled to Guelph, Ontario to compete in the national tournament with his squad. They battled Quebec to a 2nd place finish and received the silver medal.

However, that was not all for Eagles, as he himself was awarded the honors of Tournament Defensive MVP.

"What a recognition for him to receive. I'm very proud of him for getting that, and I think it just speaks to the type of player that he is and the talent that he has," expressed his Head Coach here at home with the Elecs, Mark Schott, "He's one that is all over the field. He makes an impact. He reads the play well and he's in on pretty much every single tackle. He's one that helps out his teammates and rallies them, and I'm sure he got the defense on that national team really fired up."

The young man has only been a part of the Elecs for the past year, himself having just graduated Grade nine, but he certainly left his mark on both sides of the ball. According to Schott, he is equally versatile as a running back and linebacker, and tended to remain on the field for the entirety of most games.

"It's very rare for a grade nine player to come in and make that type of impact at the high school level, but he came in right away and immediately was one of our best players. He ended up winning our team MVP as a grade nine player, which is pretty much unheard of at the high school level."

With three more years of high school football ahead of him, Eagles will be able to bring his national experience back to the local field, and Schott sees him taking on some leadership among his newer teammates.
