It was a long time coming, but it happened. The ECS Elecs football team found their first win in two years Friday evening with a 26-7 victory over the Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings.

According to their Head Coach, Mark Schott, the offence stepped up and scored the points they needed, while the defence stood tall to keep the Vikings to one touchdown.

The game also happened the home opener for the Elecs, and the win was against the same team as their last in 2016 - the Vanier Vikings.

"You know, we've had some success against Vanier, and it was nice to get another win under our belts," expressed Elecs Head Coach Mark Schott.

"The first half was a bit of an offensive struggle. Both defences played really well. Our defence, throughout the whole game, was right in their quarterback's face and getting pressure into the backfield. The score at half time was 7-0 for Vanier, and that was also the score heading into the fourth quarter. Then, our offence was finally able to get momentum and put up some points. Jonah Bachorcik kind of led the charge there with scoring three touchdowns, and Kaleb Bechtold, our quarterback, he was really great commanding the pocket and leading the offence the way up the field."

Schott added that the win is a major confidence boost in a team facing a quick turnaround to a match against Weyburn on Saturday at Woodlawn."

"It's huge. We played a really good game against Peacock on Friday, but our players were disappointed with the outcome. As coaches, we were preaching all week that we just have to keep at it, keep going and doing what we're doing, and it was nice to see that hard work and dedication pay off."

Kickoff between Estevan and Weyburn on Saturday happens at 2:00 PM
