The Estevan Minor Hockey Association (EMH) held their spring Annual General Meeting this past week with a variety of important items discussed.

"There's been a lot of changes announced within SHA (Saskatchewan Hockey Association) and some being dissolved and new ones being formed," related President Kraig Wanner, adding that this specifically is in relation to a newly founded Saskatchewan Female Hockey League and Saskatchewan AA Hockey League. A lot of details are still in the works, and so Wanner noted that when the different Associations get together next month, the information will be more thoroughly gone over.

"We (also) went through our normal updates from the year at a glance, from last year's season. We went over the different age groups and how all the hockey teams did in their respective leagues, where they ended up, and congratulated the Estevan Peewee Wolves for the championship in the South East Minor Hockey League."

"Other discussions were around the Civic Auditorium closure. We did get reimbursement from the City of Estevan on money that we had put forward to help them out with the ice plant at the time, a few years back," he added.

"Some of that money, we discussed a little bit on what that's going to be used for. We'll be working on the upcoming season's budget, so we talked about the SHA framework and we're learning more about what that's going to look like through AGMs upcoming. The main focus is skill development, from grass roots initiation 3 and 4 year old programs, all the way up to the elite leagues of AA hockey. Whether we use it towards subsidizing some of those hockey camps or bringing in goaltending instructors that can work with players and keep developing them."

While the final destination for the extra funds is still up in the air, the main goal is to improve the players, coaches, officials and all others involved in the organization.
