The Estevan Voltz 16U lacrosse team hosted the Regina Predators Sunday for their first game action in nearly two years, with the teams tying 8-8.

The match started with a tribute to those who suffered in residential schools, which Estevan Lacrosse Marketing Director and Flood Director Rochelle Duncan called very powerful.

"Lacrosse came from the Indigenous people, and it was really great to see that," she said. "After the moment of silence was done, the players all started banging their sticks on the side of the walls. I had chills. It was great."

Duncan said 113 people were in the stands, which felt like a nice return towards normalcy.

"It was fun to see. It was just great to see everybody out. It's been a while. I haven't seen the girls in a while. It's just nice to sit in an arena and see all the parents out there."

The 6U and 8U teams played mini-games width-wise across the floor during intermission, and A Cherry On Top ice cream truck was also there for the event.

Duncan said player numbers are down this season, but hopes they'll increase once the sport starts building momentum again in Estevan and they get some camps under their belt in the fall.

The Voltz have the coming weekend off before heading to Regina the following weekend.
