The Big Six Hockey League championship finals are set to kick off in an epic seven game series between the Yellowgrass Wheat Kings and the Wawota Flyers. The pair will go toe-to-toe starting on March 12th, and the winner will take home the title.

Yellowgrass reached the final in their inaugural season as a hockey team, and coach Jim Onstad shared what they expect to face.

"Wawota is a very good team, and they have a excellent goaltender and some very offensive forwards too that will have to be kept in check. We will have to play defensively, and keep our foot on the gas on the offence as well. It will be a tough series."

He added that they hope to have an advantage in the area of offence, and that as long as they keep a balance between offence and defence they should come out on top.

The Wawota Flyers are confident that previous championship series experience will pay off for them.

On the opposing side of the rink sit the Wawota Flyers with a crown to defend. They took out the Bienfait Coalers last year to received the title, and have competed in the final series for the last two years. However, coach Mark Cudmore is still expecting a tough battle.

"They have a lot of good players, and they're a big team, so I think speed will be key for us. They also have a couple of veterans that are very crafty, and that will make it important for us to stay out of the penalty box as well."

From his side, he notes that the Flyers will have experience on their side.

The two teams will hit the ice in the first of the seven games on Saturday in Wawota.
