From the modest lanes of Estevan Bowl to the bright lights in Las Vegas, Monique Ley will share the spotlight with the best bowlers in the world next summer.

The local competitor has qualified for Team Canada after finishing 5th overall in the women's division during the national team trials held in Mississauga, Ontario this past weekend.

Ley previously accomplished the feat for the 2017 squad, and is going back to the competition after missing out on this year's team.

"I'm super excited to be representing Estevan on the world stage next year," expressed Ley, who spoke from her hotel in Toronto on Monday morning. "I'm very proud to be from a small town so it's very exciting to go and compete at that level."

The top six bowlers in the women's division move on to the World Championships, hosted in Las Vegas from August 22 - 30, 2019. After a slow start, Ley bowled her way all the way up to 3rd overall on the last day before being past by two now-teammates and dropping back to a 5th overall finish.

Ley finished with a combined score of 4684 over 24 games, 74 points clear of the 7th overall bowler.

"I've always been known as a bit of a fighter when I want to make a team," added Ley. "And team trials last year was a little bit of a disappointment as I didn't bowl well."

"So I learned a lot of things from that experience, I've worked on my game which has improved a lot over the last year, and it showed this weekend."

The only Saskatchewan woman competing at team trials, Ley thanked her family and Estevan Bowl for their support in helping her get to this point. Her next competitive action will be at the Bowl Canada Cup in Edmonton this July.
