There is hockey back at Affinity Place as the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins are hosting a week long summer camp for kids.

"Well, it's a lot of fun for sure," explained Bruin's Head Coach, Chris Lewgood. "With the city having a year off, no day camps for hockey, we saw this an an opportunity to get involved and provide this type of thing for the community and it's going really well. It's certainly something our staff and players have enjoyed."

This is the first year the Bruins have hosted the summer camp and they are very encouraged with the turn out.

"We're really happy with it. We've got enough to cover our costs which is important and run a really nice on-ice portion of this thing. The instructor to player ratio is very good but at the same time, there's a lot of kids out there and it makes for an opportunity to have some fun and play some games."

"I think it'll just grow every year once people are hearing about it and familiar with it, they're going to want to join in."

They plan on making it an annual event.

"There's no question, with a city this size and hockey being as prominent in the community as it is, we need to have a camp like this and we feel like if we can produce this for people, it's our duty."

"This is a younger group so we've got everything from six year olds to twelve year olds so it's quite a variance in age and ability so we've stuck to the basics for the most part, especially to start the week. As the week goes on, and they get more comfortable, we'll get a bit more detailed and get in more of the intricate elements of the game."

"On Saturday, we're going to get together for a one hour scrimmage with each of the group and they're going to get a chance to play some hockey."

Bruin's centre, Zach Goberis is one of the instructors at the camp.

"I've been working with the older group, the pee wee group. It's been awesome. Young kids learning the ropes of older hockey so it's fun to teach them and guide them in the right way."

"I think so far it's been pretty good. The kids are enjoying it. Good turn out, more than I expected and everyone's enjoying their time here so far so it's good to see."

Lewgood echoes that sentiment.

"At the end of the day, we still had a lot of smiles on our faces and this morning they showed up just as keen as they did yesterday so I think that's a good thing."
