12 peewee hockey teams came to compete Estevan's home tournament over the weekend, but they nearly couldn't top dominating performances from a trio of local squads.

The Storm finished first in Pool C over Brandon and Regina before beating the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings. This took them to the semifinals against the Wolves.

The Wolves gained all four points over the Prairie Storm and Yellow Grass from their D pool and topped the Brandon Avalanche to meet the Storm, and went on to double their fellow Estevan team 8-4.

The Thunder swept Pool A over Moose Jaw and Regina and defeated the Yorkton Terriers 7-4, sending them to a battle against the Storm for Bronze. The Terriers would win 7-2, leaving the Storm to finish 4th in the tournament.

Meanwhile, it was Estevan versus Estevan for the championship, as the Wolves faced off against the Thunder. The Thunder took an early lead, but down 3-1, the Wolves came back and tied it up to create some panic on the Thunder's bench, before the latter scored again for a 4-3 lead. The Wolves pulled their goaltender in the final minute, leaving it open for Conrad Hase to seal himself a hat trick with an empty netter, and a 5-3 gold medal win.

"We were down on ourselves (when the Wolves scored the tying goal) after that, the coaches were yelling at us. But then after that second intermission we got back in in the third period and we kept on grinding," said Hase.

Cohen Turner of the Thunder (right) nearly gets away with the puck during the third period against the Wolves.

"In the Weyburn game, he shot it down...that was the plan, and we scored. That was basically the plan this time, but we couldn't do it so we waited for awhile until the faceoff. Then he got it down there and I beat him, then I shot it and I scored, and I was so happy and surprised," he added of the empty netter.

However, the young skater was unwilling to reveal the root of his tendency for hat tricks, of which he had several in the tournament, quipping, "I don't know if I should tell you."

"In the final game, we played real well. The boys played well, we rotated four lines steady, and our defense played hard, the boys never gave up, never quit," stated Coach Adrian Fraser.

Undefeated thus far in the season, he noted that sticking to their winning formula paid off.

"We've been rolling four lines all year, and the boys just keep coming. They never take a shift off. Our defense are always steady, always staying at home, and we've got great goaltending as well, the whole tournament long."

"We're just going to keep playing our game. We have four strong lines, and we just tire out the other teams with that. We have great goal scoring, and we're just going to keep peppering them with shots," he added.
