For the first time in over two decades, Estevan will be the epicenter of the SHSAA 3A Girls Soccer Provincials.

Seven teams from across the province will come to Estevan, 8 teams in total, to compete for the championship title at the Woodlawn and Chow fields.

The action commences on Friday, October 27th with a pair of games, one in each location, starting at 9:00 AM. The hometown team will hit the field starting at 11:00 AM, facing Swift Current on the Woodlawn turf.

"We've seen one of the 7 teams play, the others will all be new to us this year, so it'll be definitely interesting," said Stacy Murphy, one of the three Co-Coaches of the ECS girls.

"We have a great group of players this year, and they have improved by leaps and bounds from the beginning of the season till now. I'm quite hopeful that we will do well, and I know that they will try their hardest in all of their games that they'll be playing."

She pointed out one area where they might have the advantage over their opponents.

"We have a lot of speed in our midfield and forwards, some of them are quite fast."

That said, it will be a busy and excited weekend, and Murphy noted that the key to success will be keeping the mind in the game.

"The biggest thing is for them to stay concentrated and focused, because there's so many distractions happening, and to remember to use the skills that they've learnt already this season and have fun."

The two days will also hold special meaning for the three coaches.

"Soccer has been at the ECS since 1996, so this is the first time in 21 years that we have ever hosted the girls provincials. We played all of our high school years at the Comp too, so it's exciting for us, especially that we're finally getting to host."

She added that they themselves are working to stay calm and collected about the events, that way the young athletes will feel relaxed.

The competition will conclude on Saturday with three championship games, and the closing ceremonies.
