As the final days of 2017 are run off the clock, the Estevan Minor Football Association is looking back on the year that was.

Among the highlights of the group was the launch of a new, all inclusive color scheme on the jerseys, and a successful Football Day in Estevan. The Power Dodge Atom Cudas also sparked a Highway 39 rivalry when they defeated their Weyburn equivalents on the opening day of their opponent's new field.

EMF President Paul Duncan believes that a lot of strides were made in the right direction.

"It's kind of a cyclical thing that goes on, as each year, kids move up in age group. You get that rookie development again at that next level, so this year was a little bit more of a down year in comparison to 2016 where we had a lot more success and a lot more veteran players in positions. However, the really encouraging thing is seeing the league grow, as well as the growth of the young individuals that we have and watching them turn into football players."

That said, increased enrollment will be among the objectives for the group in the new year.

"We want make sure that as many kids out there that want to play football do have the opportunity, kids on the fence about it can come out and play, and go forward from there. Get the on field product looking pretty good, and then just have a lot of fun," concluded Duncan.
