Team Saskatchewan returned home from the Travelers Curling Championships with a week of curling they will never forget.

Although the team didn't make the playoffs in Kingston, many accomplishments took place for the four men curling out of the Power Dodge Curling Centre in Estevan.

"We had a great time, to have the opportunity to curl in a national championship is a lifetime experience, and to do it in a beautiful city like Kingston that hosted us so well, it was outstanding," explained Wade St. Onge, who has been curling in Estevan for close to 30 years.

"The opening ceremonies was a great experience, one of the members of the Tragically Hip threw out the first stone and he's actually a pretty good curler, he made a nice draw to the button."

Finishing the tournament with a record of 3-3, the team of Adam Himmelspeck, Ryan Hansen, Wade St. Onge and James Gordon came within one win of making the playoffs.

"It was tough, there was some pretty strong teams there and three of the four teams that made the semi-finals we had played in the round robin, we were tied in the last end with them in those games and ended up losing. That's how close we were to being the top team there."

The team was extremely close in their three losses, losing by only four points combined in those three games. Despite not making the playoffs, the men from Estevan left Kingston quite pleased with their efforts.

"We were really happy with our performance. To be that close to the top of a national championship, we were quite proud of ourselves," St. Onge concluded.
