Story Sumbitted by Melanie Dzeryk:

Three divisions of the Estevan Sharks played this weekend in Regina at the Lawson Centre with the Atom Shark Boys, Bantam Sharks Boys and Bantam Shark Girls claiming victory in their age divisions.

Mini Sharks:

The mini’s traveled to Regina for their first away tournament of the season where the Sharks had two teams entered in the mini division of the tournament. With the nasty weather that hit the area on Friday/Saturday they did end up short about 3 players on each team which meant that both teams had no substitutes to use. The mini’s each played six games which started with a great battle of 4-0 against the two Sharks teams. For the Sharks White team this was a great start to the day as this mini team ended up with 3 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses. The Sharks Blue team had a little tougher go though as they came away with 2 wins and 4 losses. Considering this was only their second tournament the coaches are very proud of how they played. These little players played their hearts out and it is so encouraging to see their improvement at every tournament.

Atom Sharks:

The Atom division also traveled to Regina on Saturday and entered two boys teams and two girls team into the tournament.

The Atom girls faced 3 strong Regina teams in a round robin tournament. All games were fast paced and had close scores. It was an exciting day! The Hammerheads had a great day! They worked well as a team. Sadie Smith and Tayla Gervais lead the team with 14 goals each throughout the tournament. Emily Sauder assisted many of these goals and had a strong tournament with 8 goals herself. Rachel Tober, Mahlyn Bomberak and Brooke Dzeryk each had great performances in net and as the youngest 3 players on their team showed a lot of potential when playing out. The other girls team were the Tiger Sharks and they also did a great job of welcoming the 2 Weyburn players into the group and had a great tournament as well! Alianna Young had 11 goals and played aggressive all day. Jordyn Tarnes and Sara Kelln had 8 goals each and contributed to the fast pace of their games. Prysm Gooding and Lily Knoll had awesome saves when in net each scored 2 goals too! Jacelyn Goebel finished off the scoring for her team with 2 more goals. Kate Dalziel, the youngest player on her team had a strong tournament, keeping up with the plays and smiling the whole day!

The Tiger Sharks and the Hammerheads both finished the tournament with a record of 2 wins and 3 loses.

The Atoms Boys also had two teams entered in the tournament and both dominated in the water. The boys Sand Sharks were lead in scoring by Logan Dalziel as he had 14 goals himself in a number of games and lead his team to a 3 wins and 1 loss. It was the Angel Sharks this weekend though that came away undefeated. The Angel Sharks came away with big wins of 12-1, 9-2 11-6 and 8-3 against their Regina/Saskatoon and Weyburn opponents and once again there was great team play from all the players as they did not have to play as hard as most teams due to their effective passing and scoring. Dierks Milford and Lucas Dzeryk lead the team this weekend with over 12 goals each but they had a lot of help from their teammates like Josh Heleta and Jace Carritt knowing when to pass up the ball and when to take the shot and score.

Bantams:

On Sunday afternoon the Bantam players hit the pool with the Bantam Girls once again dominating the tournament and walking away as tournament champs, with 6 straight wins loss . This group of girls really stood up tough against their competition and once again proved to be the team to beat. Mikayla Hack was the top scorer of the night, but everyone on this team saw the back of the net with a goal and that is definitely a great show of teamwork for this group of girls.

The Bantam boys also dominated their side of the pool this weekend with an extremely exciting games from this young group of boys. They came away with 4 straight wins in some very action packed games. Everyone on this team also attributed a goal to each game and that is a true testament of how hard these boys have been working together to grow as a team.

The next league play for the Bantam and Cadet teams will be in Regina on November 25 and 26 with Winter Provincials following in Saskatoon on December 9-10 for all divisions.
